Cubicin 444 mg/100 mL 0.9%NS
Class II — Moderate risk. May cause temporary or reversible harm; serious harm unlikely.
Why it was recalled
Lack of Assurance of Sterility; All lots of sterile products compounded by the pharmacy within expiry are subject to this recall. This recall is initiated due to concerns associated with quality control procedures observed during a recent FDA inspection.
A product that must be sterile could not be assured sterile, or was contaminated. A top reason for injectables, eye drops and IV products - loss of sterility assurance can lead to serious infections. All sterility / contamination recalls.
What was recalled
Cubicin 444 mg/100 mL 0.9%NS, Trinity Care Solutions, 202-C SW 17th Street, Ocala, FL 34471-5138, For Parenteral Use Only, Rx # 29114, Discard After 05/13/14
Check, then ask. Class II means harm is possible but usually temporary or reversible. Find the lot number on your package; if it matches, ask your pharmacist about a replacement. Do not simply stop a prescribed medication on your own - the gap can be riskier than the recall.
